Oh, I see. I finished The Jewel of St. Petersburg this morning. The ending was unexpected-with Jens' arrest and everything. I think why I did not like Valentina's death was more the fact that she and Jens never got to see each other again; the prologue is the last time they ever see each other, and it just breaks my heart. Thank you so much for replying! I was so ecstatic when you replied.
