Lori Ah ha! This all makes perfect sense now--I knew I needed to go back and do some "fine tune" reading. This helps immensely; thanks Ben!

Raquel Interesting. I agree that the Reverend ran away from his fate but I read it as he was judged a sinner and therefore couldn't bare to enter hell and therefore ran away. While back in the Bardo he tries to reconcile why he was judged a sinner and after a time decides helping Willie and atoning will be enough to either change the judgement or just give him the strength and courage to face the final judgement once again.

Lori That makes sense as well! I had actually read the section that way the first time...I'm beginning to think perhaps we are not meant to fully know why the Reverend did what he did or why it happened the way it did...another mystery added to this novel. Sigh. Thanks Raquel!

debra Agree with Raquel- Reverend was judged a sinner(they vomited when they put their heads to his), and then ran.

Danetta Cordova yes it is very clear he was damned by all the clues given for those damned and those not....but it perplexes me to the max why he was damned !
