Agreed, Janny! It's an awesome stand-alone.
I think my very favorite of yours, where I actually remember segments of certain passages even after reading it for the third time so many years ago, is "The Master of White Storm". I loved it So much. I'm actually planning a reread of all the Mistwraith/Vastmark books, but now I do believe I'll start it all off with Whitestorm.

Not that my opinion has any great weight, but that was the first book choice I recommend to friends, also.
My first book of yours and one of my all time favourites. It got me to start reading through your whole catalogue.
Maybe a weird perspective, but to me it read like a shounen manga. It had some of those same beats at the start before turning into a thrilling survival story. Definitely a book I'd recommend to others.
