Martin Thanks, Jane, for your comments and suggestions. I'll try Sharon Penman's book which has had several recommendations.

I heard a short interview of Philippa Gregory on Radio 4 a couple of weeks ago, in which her historical research was praised, so I thought I would give her a try and bought Kingmakers Daughter at my Oxfam bookshop! No, I cannot get on with her writing style. I am a retired research scientist, now reading much maritime history, but I find it hard to read novels. Elizabeth Woodville sounds interesting, so I'll go elsewhere to read about her. I have ordered a s/h copy of much-praised Alison Weir's "Lancaster & York - wars of the roses". I'll also try your suggestion of yasiv.com which I had not heard about.

Thanks again for your kind reply.

Jane My pleasure. I hope you find some great books! Alison Weir has her detractors, but I've enjoyed some of her books.
