Tracy I grew up in southern West Virginia in the 80s and we had the same urban legend about the abduction of blonde hair children. My hair was brown but my brother had blue eyes and blonde hair. Every time we would see someone outside we had never seen before I would tell him they might be coming for him. He would be terrified. I remember one night on Prom night, although at the time I didn't know it was Prom, two teens were outside our house fighting around 2am. I was sure it was people there for my brother. I was so afraid I remember telling him to get in the closet and hide.

Your story about the possible UFO kinda freaks me out. When I was a kid nothing was more frightening to me than the thought of a UFO or Big Foot showing up. I am going to thank my Dad for that, we were always watching Unsolved Mysteries, shows about UFOs and Big Foot. I am in my mid 30s now and still a little afraid of those things. But now zombies freak me out too.

T.L. Haddix Wow! That had to be scary, the two a.m. fight. I remember how tense things were back then. I don't know if there was a real threat or not, but that the urban legend was apparently so widespread really makes me curious. I'll have to do some digging on that.

I was afraid of the unknown stuff as a child, but now, it's the humans that scare me. The unknown is fascinating. That said, I don't want to come face-to-face with Sasquatch or Mothman. Especially Mothman... he's a harbinger of sorrow.

Tracy I only live a couple hours from the Mothman area and only about a hour from the Flatwoods Monster area. And you are right, humans are the scariest beast out there these days.

T.L. Haddix Ooh, I've not heard of the Flatwoods Monster. I will admit with no small amount of guilt to having watched several episodes of Mountain Monsters, though. I'll have to hit the google machine.

T.L. Haddix There's a MonsterQuest episode devoted to the Flatwoods Monster. I'm watching it now. :)

Tracy If you ever travel through Flatwoods they actually have a cardboard cutout you can take a picture with. Of course it's pretty lame next to the Mothman statue in Point Pleasant.
