John Penteros Okay, here it is. I'd have to say it's the mystery of how a person could be an electrical engineer earlier in life and work for a leading edge technology company, but in his later years feel the need to put the brakes on technological advances in his own life. While I still enjoy math, and scientific discovery, I believe we're implementing new technologies at a rate faster than we're able to understand all of their ramifications. I think there's a story in a society that creates such a technology rats-nest (with the ensuing overabundance of rats), that it finds it's become necessary to pull the plug and rethink it all (or maybe just the internet). Imagine the variety of character reactions you could paint with a society suddenly thrown back 40 years on the technology curve! Some would call it dystopian. Others would feel euphoric. The book might in effect explore the question: Is technology making our lives better?
