I've read and loved the Unhewn Throne trilogy, but for some reason the blurb for Skullsworn always puts me off - makes me think it's going to be all doom and gloom rather than blood & guts. It's been on my Want To Read list since it came out, but every time I see your name and click on the link with delight, the blurb makes me waver off elsewhere.
I thought the prologue of Emperor's Blades made it clear the Nevariim were not mythological, given the third person narration:
"Most of the Csestriim were older still, thousands upon thousands of years, and yet they continued to walk the earth, those who had not fallen in the long wars with the Nevariim."
