I so enjoyed Lincoln in the Bardo and loved the innovative approach. I am also reading Ulysses and feel frustrated that what is said to be the most important novel of all time is so absolutely dull to me. I have, for the third time in my life, come to the end of chapter 7. Not sure how I can conquer the entire book since I am simply bored. I am impressed and even a little envious that you found it as thrilling as Lincoln in the Bardo. Suggestions?
I rather willed myself to get through Ulysses, using online synopses and guides. Certain chapters completely unintelligible except through such help. But my perseverance did pay off when I reached the final, incredible chapter. Reading it solo ... wouldn't be the same. I'm even now (a few years later) considering Finnegan's Wake, but with major crib-sheet-help.
