I remember reading a true story about someone who told his group of friends the story of Ruth, but without saying initially that it was in the Bible. His friends all thought it was a great story and wanted to find out more. It was only then he told them it was from the Bible. I think a lot of people who've never read the Bible assume it's all just a bunch of do's and don'ts, but there are so many stories in there with more drama than most of the things we see on TV.
