thank you for answering my questions. I would suppose the interned Germans were from Milwaukee and Chicago because of all of the industry here, therefore suspicion of supplies? I found this which you've probably seen but it was like a propaganda film very strange. http://tpr.org/post/texas-matters-sec..., never knew a thing about Shanghai, thank you!
Thanks for sending, Dorie. The Train to Crystal City is a wonderful book and was a huge help in my research. I highly recommend it.
Great, I will check that out. Did you ever read Tallgrass by Sandra Dallas? And this year's "The Translation of Love", maybe last year, that was wonderful. How did you get the idea for this book. I looked on your website and interviews and didn't find anything on this book?
How interesting. I must read this book. I lived in Milwaukee for many years and am well acquainted with River Hills. I did know a lot of this history.
Lorraine I think you would enjoy it, it's an easy read and it's obvious that the author did a lot of research. I've lived in the Milwaukee area all of my life and didn't know anything about the German-American internment. Learn something new every day, that's why I love historical fiction :)
Hi Dorie,
Somehow I missed the end of your last question. I actually got the idea for the book when the actor George Takei started talking about his musical Allegiance. It's about Japanese internment. My husband (who is of German origin and from the Midwest) asked me if the Germans were also interned, and I didn't know the answer. I started doing research and the book took off from there!
