Self limiting and safe. ^^ I suppose I set myself up for that. I do eventually want to read your others too. I'll add these 5 to my list. Thank you!
IMO, the Sharing Knife and 5 Gods have a similar feel to them. I adore the Sharing Knife books and hand sell them as often as I can.
The only LMB books I have not enjoyed were, in fact, "The Sharing Knife" novels. I do not recommend them.
The Sharing Knife are my favourite books hands down. I have read a lot of books, and I re-read my favourites. I've read that quartet 4 times since i discovered them. I would read them more often, but I like to give them time to fade from memory a bit so I have the fun of re-discovering them each time.
What you should probably be getting from the above comments is that "The Sharing Knife" has a distinctive feel to it that you either love or hate. Add me to the Love crowd; I'm listening to the series for the maybe fourth or fifth time (I'm in the middle of book 3 at the moment.) This series has a smaller, domestic feel with a sort-of-Pioneer-era-America vibe. Definitely give it a try!
If I was forced at gun point to pick my OVERALL favorite of your books Ms. Bujold, it would have to be The Curse of Chalion. As much as I *love* the Vorkosian series, the sweep and yet intimate power of 'Chalion' took my breath away. An adventure that also moved me deeply. What more can a reader ask?
AND I have not yet jumped into The Sharing Knife. I love your work too much to feast all at once.
I love them all, but every time I re-read The Spirit Ring I regret that there are no more novels in its world.
Just do it! Read Cordelia's Honor, which is a combination of Shards and Barrayar. You'll be obsessed for a few months, and wonder why you ever delayed.
I love everything LMB writes. I once put in a review that I would probably give at least three stars to her grocery list.
Oddly, although I love and frequently re-read all my Vor books (I have them all), I never got into the Sharing Knife. I bought all of them as they came out, but have never had the urge to re-read them, for some reason. Ditto the Chalion books, which I enjoyed, but haven't felt the need to re-read - yet. I loved the Penric books and will probably reread them, but they are all e-books on my Nook. For some reason, I tend to re-read my paper books more easily than the e-books. Never thought of that before - I wonder why it is?
