That makes a lot of sense. I enjoyed the ending because of the questions it left unanswered.
Otter Peabody I work in a middle school library. Our kids read a LOT of YA fiction. I think you may be under estimating your readers. Kids today tend to like to have some answers. Too much in life is not explained adequately to them. I hope you will rethink your decision. (less)
I JUST finished reading Orphan Island and am gently reeling from the aftermath of everything we (Jinny and the reader :) ) have been through. Thank you! May I ask, though there may not be definite answers, are we to understand this literally happened, or is it all...metaphorical of Jinny's coming-of-age? (I don't think that spoils anything -- basically what I mean is, did all that really happen?? Is there really an island, and someone is sending children to it in a boat, etc.??) Thank you again!
Now that you've explained it, I can now see why you're not going to write a sequel to "Orphan Island" about Jinny. But why not a sequel about the other kids still on the island, and the new kids who come? Do you think you'll ever write a book about that?
I READ ORPHAN ISLAND 5 YEARS AGO AND I STILL THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS. But I can’t puzzle my own answers together and thinking about it gives me so much anxiety-
I can respect your answer, and appreciate that you took time to explain... but I don't love an unanswered ending. If it's just did she do this or that, okay, but this one left so many questions!
