Thank you for answering, this does help. I'm around your age too, I've been writing short stories and scene snippets, but this character is one of my 1st and favourites story wise for a novel. I know what you mean with the protagonist vs. the others. I can clearly see my side character in many ways, I was able to introduce him as a mystery, but I've been having a hard time letting my MC have any traits or embody anything other than a vessel with which to tell the story. Sometimes he's just me, sometimes I try too hard to give him a voice and the intro for him, I think that always has been a problem too, it never fit quite right. Your advice is really great and well said. I'll definitely take it into account as I try to make it through my next draft. It's crazy how everything shifts so much as you're trying to write.
