This is great. Is there an avenue for new authors?

Lori Rader-Day Most of them are for new authors. What do you write? The only tough genre is "literary" or "mainstream" because there is no association for that. AWP is a possibility if you are a teaching author.

My book is about somehow managing to deal with living with and dealing with bullies.

Lori Rader-Day Nonfiction? Look into journalism/press women (men can join too) associations in your area. Fiction? If it's for kids, consider joining SCBWI, which is a national group that has chapters all over for people who write and illustrate kids' books.
