It's so nice to see Sky's name there. He's my favorite, I love his drama :)
Ana -- I love his drama, too. When I was editing this last release I thought, "Man, all it would take to ruin Jackson's whole plan would be for one of these guys to take Sky seriously." But obviously Jackson knew that wouldn't happen. Poor Sky! I miss writing him with Jin.
Yes, sometimes I hate those guys. Haha I loved him with Jin, poor Sky always fell for that charming telepath. He was frustrating at times but I love him.
Oh man, so there's a sequel? Yaaaayy. Can't wait, I hope it's another thick book. Haha. Anyway, I also hope there's no cheating, please? For whatever reason behind the cheating.
Anne, thank you for commenting! Yes, there will be a sequel but I really can't say when—I'm so slow!
As for cheating, that's an interesting concept in this story. I think we've already seen that the Talents don't really follow the romantic conventions that normal people follow. They make their own rules according to the personalities, relationships and emotions involved. But what's true across the HT universe are that these weirdos do not love lightly, and they really, really hate to see each other in any kind of pain. Almost every character would have a different reaction to the idea of their main interest sleeping with somebody else, from nonchalance to disappointment to amusement to distress. But I don't know if a "cheating" storyline could ever really play out in a typical way, if that makes sense.
Again, thank you so much for commenting! I'm honored that you're interested in a sequel!
Thanks for answering me. 😆 I understand what you mean here, that's why I don't really like Dylan-Mark, 😂 like how Dylan seemed okay with Mark fucking around, but they're not the main couple here so it doesn't really matter to me. As for Ken-Jin though, I can't take it if Jin cheats. I had this wild imagination where Vanni might erase Jin's love and then Jin is back with Jackson again which is nopeee, Ken and Jin have come a long way so if they go back to zero again it will exasperate me although it will be delicious and satisfying if Ken is the one doing the courting this time. 😋
Anyway, there's one thing that keep nagging me, it's nothing important but I really want to know, whether Ken fixed Jin's head before or after Lip visited the infirmary?
So, will you release the sequel in novella or novel? I hope this time we can see more of Ken's POV. And more lovey dovey times of Ken and Jin. I'm also interested with Vanni and Rinzen's POVs, their history or maybe their own love life. 😉
Not sure about length, but it would be one complete work. No more serialized volumes—that was a huge mistake and the reason all the editions are now such a mess.
As for the Jin-Ken-Jackson triangle, I won't talk plot but I can say Jin almost literally worships Ken. And after what Ken did, no one should be fucking with him lightly.
And it was after Lip visited the infirmary :)
Why after the visit? Did Ken still doubting him and reluctant to help him asap? I thought he's quite shaken when he saw him like that on the floor and wanted to fix it asap.
So now he has empathic ability too? I keep wondering why he won't read Jin's mind when he have the skill. Am I missing something? Lol. Those are the last questions. 😁 Thanks again for the replies, I can't wait for the sequel, I'm still having book hangover because of your book. 😆
"Why after the visit? Did Ken still doubting him and reluctant to help him asap?"
(view spoiler)
As for why Ken doesn't just read Jin's mind, the short answer is he wouldn't know how to do it effectively in this situation. Telepathy is one of the most complicated Talents to use precisely, and the most dangerous to develop: Jin is the cleverest, most skillful and disciplined telepath in the world, and he openly admits that the stronger his Talent gets, the more likely it is to overwhelm him. Ken does have telepathic abilities, but he's nowhere near the point of reading minds whenever he wants. Again, he doesn't dive into things before he's ready.
Ken's a weird dude. How he manages all his different abilities and his extreme power, and what he chooses to focus on, will be part of the sequel.
I'm so flattered by your questions and hangover—thank you!
OMG, that cleared things up really nicely, this is why I love your book. You know how to show, not just tell, you let readers work their brain over some things, and I love books like that, the kind of book that makes me want to reread it to find the hidden answers, the thrill and satisfaction I get when I try to and finally complete the puzzle. But now I wonder why you didn't put this spoiler in Ken's POV before the infirmary scene, haha. Surely it's not only me who had wondered about that part. 😁 I know Ken really cares about Jin regardless what his part in it but that little delay was quite unsettling, thankfully you explained it in great detail too, I really appreciate that, thank you! 😆 Mystery solved!! 😆
Telepathy is the most complex talent, totally makes sense. After all, the brain is the most complicated organ in the universe. Even Jen didn't have the finesse like Jin, and Ken learned from Jen's mistakes and he's not stupid and impulsive like Sky, hahaha. Btw, there's this one amazing manga about telepathic, ES: Eternal Sabbath by Soryo Fuyumi which covered the quintessence of brain's complexity really nicely, imho. I read it several years ago, not quite remembered the exact plot anymore but I recalled it's mind-blowing me when I read it.
You're welcome. You deserve the praise, really. 😄 I wondered why your novellas edition didn't get the love, maybe because multiple POV doesn't work well in novella?
Oh yeah, about empathic ability that I asked before, what I really mean is does he have (view spoiler). And about this particularly special talent of Ken, it reminded me of Sakura Mikan's abilities from Gakuen Alice manga. At first I thought oh maybe he has the same abilities with Mikan, lol, but his special talent is really original, (view spoiler)
Thank you so much, Anne. It means so much when people still engage with this story—because I really undermined its success with my own poor management. I think the novels were doomed by my inability to put them out on a regular schedule. People got bored of waiting 2 to 3 to 6 to 9 months between releases. The trilogy was poorly managed, as well, and never really got a fighting chance. Even when I recovered the rights to the story, I just didn't have the smarts/time/resources to release and market it properly. Now it's just an old story with a billion overlapping versions floating around on pirating sites, Goodreads, blogs and other book places, and I just kind of have to live with it. I can't tell you how much I respect all the indie authors out there who publish and promote their works with such professionalism—I have not yet come close to that level of togetherness!
"But now I wonder why you didn't put this spoiler in Ken's POV before the infirmary scene, haha. Surely it's not only me who had wondered about that part." Because Ken was still reeling, and wouldn't have been able to reveal all of that. My favorite thing about multiple POVs is being able to choose which character offers the best "view" for the reader. In this case, I knew Lip would understand and sympathize with Ken wayyyyy better than Ken would understand and sympathize with himself.
As for that ability: We'll see :)
I agree, I'm also one of reader that prefers to read omnibus rather than series like trilogy or novella. Anyway, I think if you remove your novellas and trilogy from GR and then just put the omnibus, maybe HT can get a new chance to flourish, a fresh start. The way I see it, when people stumble across the first volume of HT novellas, looking at the average rating of the first volume of the novella edition can clearly diminish some urge to give the omnibus a chance, even when we know we couldn't and shouldn't judge whole series just from average rating of one tiny part of the series. Just look at the average rating of your omnibus version, mostly 4-5 stars, right? This kinda story with multiple POV works better in thick book, so I hope the next sequel will be as thick as the omnibus, nothing much really happened in thin book under 300 pages.
I hope popular reviewers will notice your book after they enjoyed your Merrick series, that's how I found HT even though I'm not popular reviewer, lol.
I did contact Goodreads to get the novellas and trilogy removed, but unfortunately I was told they were not able to do so. Huge bummer. I may contact them again, though.
I guess it's because they don't want to remove books and reviews from readers' shelves without ample reason.
