Lena: In an earlier comment on the series, you said that you couldn't see how a system (slavery) that had been in existence for 500 years could be ended. But the New Confederacy that you describe seems to be a society that is highly stratified by class and sex. We don't find out that much about the remaining United States. But I would think that having large numbers of young women kidnapped and sold into sex slavery would be a powerful motive for a national mobilization and war. And, it doesn't seem that the potential combatants on the Confederate side - the young working and middle class - being unable to afford to own slaves for themselves - would be all that motivated to fight.
