It kind of sucks to hear that you're put to a limit, especially since most of us would enjoy more/like bigger books. Personally, I love a bigger book when it has a great world and characters I really enjoy, which has always been the case with books of yours that I've read. I'd hate to think that certain scenes that may be important or enhance the stories are being cut due to word limits. Is this perhaps why we see some authors releasing online novellas in between books in a series?
I'm a printer, though, and my general experience is that you usually get greater discount for bigger orders. (We don't manufacture books specifically though, so I can only guess, here.) I think the cost to produce wouldn't so much be the printing, but perhaps on the manufacturing end. Or maybe if they have fancy cover designs with spot gloss/soft touch coatings, or the types/sizes of bindings, etc. Either way, I can accept cost savings as an excuse, but only sort of. I just find it hard to trust companies in general these days, unfortunately....lol!
