The most harrowing part of the story for me was actually Arthur's childhood, because he was in such an emotionally unsupportive and spiritually barren environment. And Bixby gave me the creeps. He wasn't a pervert. But leaning on one's foster child for emotional support and trying to be his friend rather than his parent...that made me feel ill.
