H.M. Holten Always be careful about answering questions after lunch. I can just see your parakeet-self admiring a mirror or -- its reflection. Which Station? It's rather late (after dinner) so forgive my inability to remain serious. But I like the idea of vanilla scented St Elmo essence.

Raymond Elmo "Stations of the Angels" - its one of my books around here somewhere. My favorite house in the book: The House of Laughter. I don't live there, I swear. I just keep sleeping on the couch.

Kathleen Garlock "Letters From a Shipwreck in the Sea of Suns and Moons" is my favorite St. Elmo concoction, and I admit to having sampled a few. It's more of a salted caramel essence. Or maybe a salted nut roll. Definitely, delightfully nutty.

Maurice Arh Interesting choice but not the one I would have gone for. Of all Ray’s books, Stations of the Angels was the one that I thought worked least well. I think it had something to do with the necessarily fragmented nature of the structure, preventing it from coalescing into a satisfying whole. I realise I’m criticizing it for being what it is meant to be, which doesn’t seem fair, but there it is.
I’d recommend Suns and Moons as first choice, followed by Strawberry Faire. (The Tartan series is disqualified on the technicality that it isn’t finished yet, though you could do worse than to start there. The rate Ray is putting them out, he could well beat you to the finish line.) That leaves The Book in the Bottle. It could be described as ‘for younger readers’, so if that is what you are, there’s your best pick.

H.M. Holten I do hope the couch is comfortable.
Who knows, Ray, I may well pay a visit, but it depends on the availability of beds. If I'm in the neighbourhood -- beware.

Jennie I think Ray you should get a Goodreads award for most stylish witty and original replies to readers questions. And another award for the most stylish witty and original novels of course

Raymond Elmo I am now expected to say something stylish and witty? Sorry. I am in the damned bathroom stall #3 and the boss is shouting for me to come out and explain why the new software does nothing but make a humming sound through the speakers.
I am going to return to the conference and defend it as 'a stylish and witty hum'. Thanks for the idea.
