I agree, I think everyone reads books that are set in locations we don't know and it expands our horizons and knowledge base to learn about them. I know I read lots of books set in America before I ever went there and it didn't affect my enjoyment. Often it's better to be able to use your imagination rather than (lazily?) base fiction on fact when you read anyway.
