One thing I was going to say was, share your work (which is like your no. 2 here), because yeah, otherwise you just don't know if what you're writing is conveying what you want it to convey. But I know some people prefer *not* to share.
True. Some write for themselves, or for one or two others. I guess I was assuming the context was writing to be widely read.
