A ‘writer’s block’ is commonly a large rectangular-shaped object used to ensure loose manuscript pages – fresh from the typewriter – were weighed down and kept in the proper order. It was an especially important tool when writing in draughty conditions. In the digital age, where no paper is needed, any heavy object, kept at the side of your computer, is considered an adequate substitute for a traditional ‘writer’s block’. I use a bottle of Bourbon.
