Christine For my two cents I feel you just can't cuddle up with an e-reader in the same way as a paperback... In their favour though electronic books are a convenient way of taking the weight off the bookshelves especially for quick reads that you might not want to come back to. You don't daydream about e-books though, and they're not at all sensual or sentimental. Give me a cup of tea, a quiet sofa, pages to thumb and that old book smell anyday :)

B.K. Duncan Back in the day when I flew abroad on holiday with a suitcase full of books rather than clothes, I'd have loved an e-reader. Now I don't jet off anywhere I have travel guides, Eric Newby, Jan Morris, and coffee-table books of glossy photos of exotic places to bring back memories and feed my imagination. You can go anywhere with a book -- even if it is only to the armchair in front of the fire.

Lesley Mace Thank you so much for your answers! I agree - the smell of a book beats an e-reader any day. And books are a lot easier to browse. A cold, clinical list of books at the beginning of my Kindle, doesn't entice me like a crammed and colourful shelf.
