Brian Christopher It is possible to force your way out of writers block. First of all let me say that before I start to write a novel I generally have the outline beginning to end in my head. I then ride out a short synopsis of the story. This can be from anywhere from half page to 4 or 5 pages. Then I will take each line and work that out as a chapter. Everything is always easier if you know where you're going.

Another trick is brainstorming with yourself.
– Write down words or ideas that come to mind, it can be anything at all.
– When you have enough, a pattern should begin to appear.
– From that pattern you can work out your synopsis, then start working on the chapters.

Both of these options work for me every time, even when I think cannot think of anything else. The point is also to actually sit down and do it. Don't wait around for divine intervention!

M.L. Carrington Great suggestions! I totally agree with not waiting around for divine intervention. When I have writer's block, it doesn't take me long to push it aside, and I find that it's usually there because I'm putting too much pressure on myself to perform. So by "letting it go" and promising myself it's okay to take a day or so, I relieve the pressure, freeing me to do what I do best!
