I really appreciate this post. I had Cory Doctorow at my library last year to speak to the teens, and one of them asked him where he went to college to develop his eclectic and brilliant knowledge of so many subjects. He started laughing and sputtered out, "College? I never even graduated high school!" and of course my advanced placement teens were all shocked! But it was a great shock, a great teaching moment to say, You CAN self-educate, you CAN gain all the knowledge you need to have a career, if you are curious and persistent and want it.
