Sorry, I didn't specify which book - The Map of Salt and Stars. Your characters are wonderful, all of them. I loved Huda and Nour, Zahra and their mama. You wrote about their father so touchingly I had tears within the first few pages. And the way you wrote about Syria seriously is so close to home. I went right before the war, and I was about Nour's age.
Sorry for going on and on. I just adored it. The side story was good too. I liked traveling back in time. The way you had Nour speaking to the roots, in the beginning, was such a nice way of initiating the telling of the other story. So many lines in the book are beautiful, like the way Nour played Umm Kulthum, hoping her parents would dance again.
