My husband George is a third or fourth generation George (all different middle names). His father was born in Ohio and had a half brother. The family has lived in Ohio, Florida, Maryland, Colorado and New York before my George graduated high school. My mother-in-law (Helen) once told me that all the Ackleys are descended from an Ackley that came to America in the 1700's and had 17 children. I don't know if that is true or not.
Yes, Nicholas Ackley! He's supposedly the progenitor of all the Ackleys in America. As I understand, his old family farm still exists in Connecticut and is a historical landmark. I've considered showing up there and asking if I could crash for the night ... after all, I am kinfolk :-)
So Helen was telling the truth! I couldn't always tell if she was or if the stories were exaggerated. There is a booklet about the Ackleys in America which I don't have. I am sending you an email to your website of the Ackley covered bridge. By the way, I won your book. I look forward to reading it.
