[close] This group is designed to foster discussion of supernatural horror and dark fantasy books and short stories that were written in the 1970s & 1980s. Think Stephen King, Robert McCammon, Peter Straub, Charles L. Grant, Rick Hautala, Dean Koontz, T.E.D Klein, Ramsey Campbell, just to name a few. Works that were written before the onslaught of teenage vampires falling in love, zombies taking over the world, and dystopian societies popping up everywhere. Do you miss those bygone, halcyon days of supernatural fiction, of waiting for the latest issue of The Twilight Zone Magazine to show up in your mailbox? Then come on in, the water's fine (unless you're reading The Raft by Stephen King, or Jaws by Peter Benchley)

Whether you hide these "guilty pleasures" in a box in your attic and with deceptive book covers or you proudly display these on your family book shelf and on your coffee table, this group is for you! Every month we will pick a title to read as a group. Be sure to vote in our monthly poll to help choose next month's title! Come chat about your favorites and maybe discover some new (to you) gems! Warning: Books read and discussed by this group may contain overbearing heroes, unruly heroines, drama galore, big misunderstandings, long separation of H/h, bucket loads of sexual tension, kidnapping, possible cheating and/or possible forced seduction and/or rape. There's no concrete definition or grocery list of elements that make something a bodice ripper. It's all subjective and, like porn, we know it when we see it. ;D It's a genre that broke the rules, so it's only logical that it shouldn't follow any.
