[close] This group is open to anyone who wants to join and agrees to our Ground Rules. This group is specifically aimed at providing continual accountability and opportunity to learn and unlearn what we know about systems of oppression. Topics are largely non-fiction but can include various topics, such as, race, activism, intersectional feminism, nationality, immigration, ability, policy change, socialized values, law, privilege, allyship, etc. This group is a BRAVE space, as safety cannot be guaranteed. Participation is "challenge by choice". However, there will be gentle encouragement and accountability provided by this community, particularly for embracing uncomfortable conversations in the spirit of learning and growth. Acknowledging a brave space is critical when learning about identity and discussing privilege and oppression. A brave space is inclusive to all races, sexes, genders, abilities, immigration status, and lived experiences. A brave space allows individuals to express themselves, challenge one another in a positive way (call-in vs. call-out), and learn from one another. Priority for reading / discussion material is placed with authors of minoritized identities.

[close] Hello and welcome to the Overbooked Reading Group - a place for those who love to read, want to explore new books, and enjoy sharing their passion with others. This is less of a reading club and more of a group. You aren’t forced to read a book you don’t want to, and there are no awkward meetings to attend. This group is what YOU decide to make of it! Whether you’re looking for a challenge, searching out new book recommendations, or you are looking for some accountability with your reading goals, this is the place for you! I’m sure one thing we all have in common is there are way too many books on our TBR shelf. Time to start making a dent in it! Life is chaotic. I find myself overbooked (see what I did there?) way too often. Hopefully we can remember to take time for ourselves and do the things we love. Let's have some fun, read together, and watch our group's bookshelf grow! Feel free to invite other friends you think might enjoy participating in this group. I’m hoping to start a reading challenge in the New Year and would love to have as many people participate as possible.
