[close] This bookgroup started up with C.S. Lewis's Surprised by Joy in November of 1994. We have been meeting monthly ever since! As our group has grown over the years we feel that our name, Carpe Librum, suits us well as we are always eager to 'sieze the book' that we are to read next.

Norah Lofts, The Brittle Glass, 1942 One of our favorite authors is the wonderful Norah Lofts and many of her books are, to our great delight, being reprinted. NL wrote many novels, mostly historical, mostly with rural settings, all wonderfully crafted and intelligently and emotionally engaging. She also wrote memorable novelised histories of Anne Boleyn, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Katharine of Aragon, Richard Coeur de Lion and many others, in addition to several non fiction subjects. She also wrote under the pseudonyms Peter Curtis and Juliet Astley.
