[close] All 16 and older are welcome. This book club focuses on books with a mental health lean. These books have all been read by The Villain Esteem Team. We have an optional Facebook group as well in order to provide access across multiple platforms increasing the accessibility. *Trigger warnings will be provided.

[close] Are you living with a disability, or know someone who is? Do you or someone you love struggle with a mental health condition like anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, or Asperger's syndrome? Or are you a student or professional in the field of disability or mental health? Then this book club might be for you! I'm hoping to use this Goodreads group as a public forum for discussions around the issues of disability, marginalization, freedom and dissent. In my opinion, issues of disability are intimately connected to the preservation of the social freedoms we all enjoy, as well as our continuing prosperity. If we could get the conversation around disability (physical, emotional and mental) right, many of the social problems we grapple with as a society would vanish. In this group, we'll read first-person narratives of disability and dissent, classics in the areas of political philosophy and metaphysics, and books on current and historical events. Particularly of interest are Western political philosophers from the 18th century onward, narratives of resistance (both fiction and nonfiction), comparative religion, and historical books about the Nazis.
