Danmei, (耽美) or "indulging beauty", is a genre of Chinese fictional media that involves affectionate or romantic relationships between two men. The term has its origins from the Japanese tanbi, or aestheticism. The genre is compared to, and contrasted with, yaoi.
While these works grow popular both within mainland China and outside it, their legal status is often uncertain due to ambiguous laws on pornography and portrayal of homosexuality.
