[close] Hello! Foggy Book Club is a monthly book club for those of us living with chronic illness, disability and/or mental illness. Allies are welcome, also. We read only Fiction, but are not genre specific! As long as it's fiction, you can submit it for voting! The books will be discussed here throughout the month and at the end of each month there will be a livestream on YouTube (@OlgaChronics) where we discuss it further and decide the next book. Voting & Updates will take place on Instagram and Twitter (@OlgaChronics). [close] Are you living with a disability, or know someone who is? Do you or someone you love struggle with a mental health condition like anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, or Asperger's syndrome? Or are you a student or professional in the field of disability or mental health? Then this book club might be for you! I'm hoping to use this Goodreads group as a public forum for discussions around the issues of disability, marginalization, freedom and dissent. In my opinion, issues of disability are intimately connected to the preservation of the social freedoms we all enjoy, as well as our continuing prosperity. If we could get the conversation around disability (physical, emotional and mental) right, many of the social problems we grapple with as a society would vanish. In this group, we'll read first-person narratives of disability and dissent, classics in the areas of political philosophy and metaphysics, and books on current and historical events. Particularly of interest are Western political philosophers from the 18th century onward, narratives of resistance (both fiction and nonfiction), comparative religion, and historical books about the Nazis. [close] Radical Reading is a new GR bookclub group dedicated to nonfiction books on various topics from a progressive, liberating, anti-racist, feminist and queer perspective. We have buddy reads and an active discussion board, where we talk about the books we read, exchange ideas or just have fun. Our goal is to engage in lively, productive and respectful conversations to expand our horizon and become an advocate/activist for positive societal change. The range of nonfiction books we read and discuss is wide, covering genres such as history, economy, art, sociology or politics. Our group is still new and thus a work in progress, however we gladly welcome new members! Please read the guidelines for a membership request.
