Empathy

[close] As software developers, we all learn at some point that technical skills alone aren't sufficient. Success and growth in our careers depends on becoming better at soft skills - more empathetic, more caring, better listeners, stronger team players. Together, we'll draw inspiration from general empathy-related works, as well as books written specifically for the programming business context, in both cases learning lessons about how to be better developers, and better people.

New books every month!!!* WARNING: Some of these books may not be suitable for all ages. I will make lists of books for different age groups with the same idea soon.

[close] Let's grow a collection of great progressive books for kids. By progressive, I mean those fostering values, ideas, knowledge, and behavior in support of social justice/fairness, environmental sustainability, and empathy-based relationships with self and others. We're less worried about foul language and violence than, say, Common Sense Media. We're more concerned with giving our kids age-appropriate exposure to life--in all its joyous, magical, rich, difficult, and painful glory--in ways that help them understand, manage, and thrive in it. The page for each book will show the ratings and reviews by all Goodreads users, but when you click a book on a shelf for this group and then click "view activity," you'll see just the ratings and reviews by our group members. Feel free to add any books you'd recommend. Your reviews need not be long. Just offer why you think the work is a good choice for this list.
