Not saying the big publishers are bad, as they all publish some amazing work, but there's also space for the hidden gems from smaller outlets in our reading lives, surely? [close] This group is for discussion of irrealist literature and other experimental fiction of an Oulipo-like nature. It's a space where travellers of the intellect can stay a while, escaping the morrases and mollasses of the middlebrow and mainstream. Think Borges, Kafka, Calvino and Perec. Think Sebald, Ishiguro, Cortazar and Karinthy. I started this group because I couldn't find anything akin and active on Goodreads. This page is dedicated to the memory of the Argentinian literary critic, Ana María Barrenechea, who first used the term "irreality" in connection with Borges's works.
