At the heart of this group is a living philosophy: Equality Without Distinction The belief that every contribution holds value—not because of a person’s gender, background, or status, but because of what they bring to the table. It’s not about labels. It’s about contribution. We’re not here to tick boxes or flatten differences. We’re here to rethink the systems that still define people by categories rather than capabilities. We look at the past not just to learn, but to ask better questions: What was lost when balance gave way to hierarchy? Whose voices were buried beneath the dominant story? What would it look like to build a future that honours every contribution? If you’re tired of shallow conversations about progress… If you’re curious about what equality can be beyond quotas and tokenism… If you believe real change starts with honest, thoughtful discussion… Welcome. Dear Readers, As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too. The plan is to select and read a book every month, then discuss the work during the month’s last week (to give everyone time to read it!). I will post some questions/quotes to get things started, but I would love for this to grow into an open discussion with and between you all. Whenever possible I hope to have the author, or another prominent voice on the subject, join the conversation. If you fancy it, please join up and participate. Everyone is welcome. [close] Radical Reading is a new GR bookclub group dedicated to nonfiction books on various topics from a progressive, liberating, anti-racist, feminist and queer perspective. We have buddy reads and an active discussion board, where we talk about the books we read, exchange ideas or just have fun. Our goal is to engage in lively, productive and respectful conversations to expand our horizon and become an advocate/activist for positive societal change. The range of nonfiction books we read and discuss is wide, covering genres such as history, economy, art, sociology or politics. Our group is still new and thus a work in progress, however we gladly welcome new members! Please read the guidelines for a membership request. Guidelines for requesting membership 1) Prospective members must have an active public profile; a request from an inactive and non-public profile is rejected 2) We have mandatory questions you must answer when you apply 3) Authors are welcome; however self-promotion is not allowed 4) We may reject an application if we feel that the person is not joining in good faith, e.g. just here to provoke, troll or spread hateful content; or for the reasons stated under 1) and 2)
