[close] Therians and otherkin are people who identify as and/or believe they are nonhuman creatures, either spiritually, psychologically, or otherwise. This group is to provide such people with a place on GoodReads to meet, learn from each other, and share in our love of books. A little about us, not all people associate with one label or another, many kinds of nonhumans developed their own communities apart from the otherkin label. The safe general term for us is nonhuman, though some psychologists have used the term trans-species. While not inaccurate, some people of the transgender community oppose this term, so it's rarely used. The term otherkin has been around since 1990, and therianthropy (as an identity) since '94. People with nonhuman identities know that their bodies are human, and we strive to be functional members of society. We hold no delusions that we can shapeshift or have some supernatural power relating to what we are.
