We will be going through inspirational books such as "Awaken the Giant Within" and posting discussions about the readings. Please share your thoughts, dreams, decisions, tips, setbacks, etc. as we take this journey towards greatness together.

[close] A place to discuss all the unique aspects of Deaf culture as highlighted in the thriller Silent Fear (A novel inspired by true crimes) by Lance & James Morcan. This group can also be an intersection of sorts where Deaf and hearing people can engage and learn from each other.

[close] 2017 is a year for action. It’s more important than ever that American women try to understand each other in the face of such partisan division, and that we come together in the quest for social justice and equality. That means making calls to your representatives. That means marching for things you care about. That means making your voice heard and lifting each other up. That means educating yourself about experiences outside your own. Reading has been proven to promote empathy and understanding, and we believe that reading broadly is one small step in mending the divides of our nation. The books we will read will encompass a broad range of American experiences; we’ll read about Muslim-Americans, Latinos, African-Americans, LGBTQ+ individuals, undocumented immigrants, white working class women, and more. Because all of these people are American, and all of their stories are American stories. We'll be discussing the books during the last week of the month — so get your copy and get reading now!

[close] The Chai Circle is a book club in the Santa Cruz/Monterey/San Jose area that seeks to expand notions about Islam, Middle East and the Muslim experience. We intend to explore religion, culture, colonialism, war, gender, societal taboos and the diasporatic experience through ancient and contemporary Islamic/Middle Eastern voices. The group will select a book for the month and meet at a coffee shop or group member's home for the discussions. The Chai Circle is open to everyone, irrespective of religious and political affiliations; feel free to invite your friends. We want to form a loyal group of members, so make sure to invite friends who have a serious interest in participating in the club. Join us if you share our love of books and would like to engage in conversation about Islamic literature in a safe, relaxed environment.
