[close] The purpose of this club is to read books about ideas and then subsequently meet up and discuss them. The main theme of the group is the evolution of human civilization(even loose connections are welcome). The books may be read in English or French. The conversations will be in English unless we unanimously agree to have it in French. Why are institutions or cultural norms the way that they are? Some philosophers claim much of this structure is arbitrary and could be removed without further consequence; whilst others claim even the little things have a deep property of emergent truth. This leaves the group open for analysis of economic and legal institutions throughout history. What is the best way forward? Should trial and error guide us or are there things that can only work when fully centralized? All are welcome
