The mission of this book club is to inspire reading and the discussion of literary works by a variety of authors that engages and expands our worldview while providing an atmosphere that promotes sisterhood, unity, and community involvement. Our past selections have sparked wonderful conversations about race, mental illness, immigration, disabilities, sexuality, and much more! The cornerstone of our club is that we seek connections within the community to broaden our education surrounding the book topic. For example: • Half of a Yellow Sun- Film Screening of the movie version at Duke University’s Nasher Museum • Hidden Figures- movie version debut at Southpoint Mall AMC Theater • Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter- volunteered at NC State’s Special Olympics • Mama Namibia- “We Are Proud to Present” at UNC’s Playmakers Repertory • Crow!- Walking Tour by the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society on the 1898 Wilmington Race Massacre Those are just a few examples. [close] People 4 The People Atlanta is reading leftist theory, narratives, and books as a group to help inform their personal and activist practice.

[close] The next four years will require hard conversations about privilege, oppression, the future of the political left, what to do with the Democratic Party, and above all white supremacy. Books will range from Fiction to Poetry to Nonfiction to anything else in between, and they will be chosen as a group and hopefully sometimes match up with events (movies, plays, horrific laws being passed), holidays, etc. Happy reading, happy resisting.
