[close] Upmarket fiction is described as genre fiction with literary/mainstream elements, so upmarket romance is romance that stretches the genre's boundaries and adds literary depth, intense characterization, and plenty of real-world drama, but still with that focus on boy meets girl, their ups and downs, and their happy ending. Half romance. Half literary. All good story crafting.
