[close] A reading group for those who love the world of science-fiction. The Hugo Awards represent some of the greatest and most beloved sci-fi novels of all time. Join the group for a chance to read or re-read some amazing books! Every month we'll be reading a novel selected from each decade since the Hugo Awards began. The book will be chosen from members' votes in the polls so be sure to cast your vote. Sci five!

[close] The Hugo Awards are the most well known awards in science fiction and fantasy. They are a fan vote award and this group is for people who plan to read (at least one of) the nominees before the winners are announced in August. Join us for discussion of the nominated works here on Goodreads or elsewhere on social media using the hashtag #ReadHugos. The nominees have been announced, you can find the full list of nominees here. After the nominees were announced, it was clear that two voting blocs, the Sad Puppies and Rabid Puppies, dominated the 2015 Hugo selection process. As many people in the group expressed little interest in reading the SP/RP nominees, we are now in the process of selecting alternative works for the group to read alongside the Hugo nominees. [close] Welcome to the group! This is a filial group of Hugo & Nebula Awards: Best Novels group, and this group is chiefly interested in SF and Fantasy shorter works, first of all related to the main genre awards but not exclusively so.

[close] This group is for like-minded people who want to read all of the Hugo and Nebula winners and runners-up. The Hugo Awards are chosen by the fans. The Nebula Awards are chosen by science fiction writers. A lot of the books overlap, but not all. The Nebula awards started in 1966. Many people believe that the Nebula awards are more prestigious due to it being writers judging writers. The Hugo awards (Originally called the World Science Fiction Society until 1992) have been giving out awards since 1953. As of the end of 2017, there are: - 71 Hugo Winners - 279 Hugo Runners Up (Dune World by Frank Herbert is not in the list) - 53 Nebula Winners - 283 Nebula Runners Up This will be an adult only group, mostly because we don't want to censor ourselves and because a few of the books on the list are not appropriate for children and we don't fancy trying to explain incest, murder, and the meaning of life to random children.
