And it is not only Christians who are looking to the “Second Coming” to fulfil this expectation. Believers of all other faiths have expectations of a similar kind. So it is that the Buddhists are looking forward to meeting their Fifth Buddha, otherwise known as Maitreya; the Hindus expect to welcome their Kalki Avatar; the Jews are praying for the coming of their Messiah; while the Muslims await their Prophet Issa preceded by the Mahdi, and the Zoroastrians their Shah Bahram; etc. Down the ages, man-made dogmas and clergy-inspired doctrines have been formulated, in all sects and religions, to address this theme. Undoubtedly, the arts can also play a useful role in further exploring this important subject and in helping all to gain alternative insights into every aspect of this monumental event. Readers in this group should be able to find artistic publications (drama, fiction, graphic novels, picture books, poetry, short stories, etc.) dedicated solely or in part to exploring this theme.
