[close] E.T.A. Hoffman, H.P. Lovecraft, Shirley Jackson and (arguably) Clive Barker all moved horror fiction forward in their time. Who's doing so today? I think a case could be made for Thomas Ligotti and Glen Hirshberg also making advances in the field -- but I'm curious about what YOU think. Who are the authors who moved beyond the tropes and created something truly extra-ordinary? This is the place to talk about horror that comes across as highly imaginative, or (to use a phrase I ordinarily dread) "outside the box".
