In the shadow of the 20th Century, certain thinkers still loom large, while new writers and new movements continue to develop before our eyes. From biopower to speculative realism, Agamben to Zizek, this group is dedicated to all things current. Professors, students, philosophers, and the everyday inquisitive are all welcome to join and discuss what is happening at the vanguard of philosophical thought.

[close] I've created this group for people who wish to sharpen or maintain their critical thinking skills by reading books on the process of thinking itself, as well as books on topics which merit thorough critical analysis.

[close] A group dedicated to achieving your dreams. We support each other, give helpful advice and encouragement and compare paths to success. Come join! The name of the group is based on the Chinese phrase for imagination is "想象." Literally, 想 means "to think" and 象 means "elephant". The direct translation is "To Think of Elephants." Thus, the name of the group. "To Think of Elephants" means, to me, to dream the impossible dream, and to achieve it. That is, after all, imagination.

[close] This is a group supporting the idea that there is a paucity of current fiction being written about the era from 1960 to 1980. The tumultuous period of Cross-country trips, a generation gap and the social movements of anti-war, pro civil rights, plus woman's, and gay liberation. The period from what might be called the first Liberation Lit book, "On The Road", to Tim Robbins string of irreverences in the late seventies, with "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues"providing a good example. But what writers are reflecting back now on this period of huge change and a restructuring of the entire social contract? Where are the novels to finally end the divide between the returning soldier and the protesting hippie? Where is the closure that is needed as baby boomers enter their old age. They need art to reflect their sense of all this finally being past.
