[close] How many people can be inspired to read at least one classic this year? How many classics can we read as a group? Join us for this year's challenge outlined below, or visit our Facebook Group (Click Here) The idea for this challenge came from my cousin Scott, a high school English teacher, who created this for anyone who wants to read a classic story, play, or book of poetry before next January. The Challenge: By accepting the challenge, you commit to finishing at least one book this year. By engaging in the yearly threads we can see what kind of literary contribution we’ve made to society that year. Scott's been thinking about a way to take English Literature education out of the classroom, and to give you an incentive to read that book that you’ve always meant to read, but never gotten around to reading. Why not give it a go? Ways to Engage: - Optional Monthly Themes - Reading Groups Logging a Book: When you finish a classic book, please post the following to the feed: Title, Author, Year of Original Publication, Number of Pages, and Your State or Country. You may also post analysis, critique, or questions about the book if you wish. Please include your state or country in 1-2 posts or message a moderator individually, to get a sense of the global reach of the group. Unfortunately, we can no longer keep up with the statistics, but encourage you to engage with others on the threads. Yearly Totals: - 2015: 377 Books, 109,467 pages, 67 readers - 2014: 766 Books, 212,656 pages, 99 readers - 2013: 728 Books, 208,893 pages, 154 readers - 2012: 227 Books, 77,496 pages (Oct.-Dec. only) This is a grassroots group so feel free to participate as much or as little as you have time for. [close] Welcome to Short & Sweet Treats! We are here to read books together, engage in discussions, and have fun. We play lots of games and read lots of good books! Each month, we will read a different genre voted by our members, at 200 pages or less. This is great for those who may have busy schedules and is also a good way to acquaint yourself with a genre you haven't tried yet. You may end up discovering you like a new genre you never would have imagined. Active participation is encouraged. But much like desserts and other treats, take what you want and leave the rest. Having fun is mandatory :)
