100865 I think reading does increase empathy. In books you read the characters thoughts and actions, and you feel like you've been through their experiences with them. You developed an empathy for real people that could be going through those things. For example, I read "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green and now I have a better understanding for what kids with cancer go through.
