I greatly believe that reading increases empathy. When getting to know characters within whatever you're reading you examine what kind of lives they lead and what kind of situations that those characters are in. As you continue to read you better understand things that you may have never understood before. Reading helps us to be able to comprehend real life situations thus increasing our empathy towards others.
