How did your classics reading go in March? Share what you've read here! What was your favourite? How about your least favourite? What would you particularly recommend?
Introducing ... the #MiddlemarchChallenge!! 🎉
As part of the #ClassicsCommunity, I’m inviting all of you to join me in reading George Eliot’s Middlemarch in April!
I’ve made no secret in the past that Middlemarch has always been a book that has intimidated me — due to its size and the fact that it’s sometimes touted as the best book in the English language. That’s a lot of hype to live up to!
But as there are lots of us who are spending more time at home, and with an increased need for social interaction, I thought I’d create a readalong that we can all be a part of. Depending on your copy (and judging by mine), you’ll only have to read approximately 30 pages per day to finish by the end of the month. Which I think makes it very manageable!
⭐️ You can read it in whatever form you wish - as a physical book, an eBook, audiobook, or other!
⭐️ You can read it in its original English or as a translation
⭐️ Share your thoughts using #MiddlemarchChallenge and #ClassicsCommunity on Instagram and Twitter
⭐️ Join in with the discussions here on our Goodreads page!
⭐️ More to be revealed soon!
I’m really looking forward to diving into Middlemarch - and I hope you’ll join me! 💕
Hello everyone!I'd love to know what classics you read in February! What was your favourite? How about your least favourite? Anything you'd recommend?
Happy New Year everyone! It’s 2020 and that means ... the #ClassicsCommunity 2020 Reading Challenge has officially BEGUN!!I am so excited to make 2020 the Year of the Classic and read lots of great books alongside you all! May you all have a wonderful reading year, and hopefully enjoy the challenge!
Happy reading!
My plans are to start the year of with The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton (because I am OBSESSED with her at the moment as I’m sure some of you will be able to tell!!), then read Where Angels Fear to Tread by EM Forster, followed up with our readalong for The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James. And then maybe some poetry in between too, but I haven’t decided what yet. Maybe some Christina Rossetti!
It will be a busy fortnight!
Share your reading updates here for the first week of the #Classicsathon! What have you started by reading? Don't forget to tell us your thoughts on the books you've finished!
The #Classicsathon is back in January, ready to kickstart your classics reading year!Start date: 1st January 2020
End date: 15th January 2020
You can join in wherever you are and I'll be putting more topics together for you to share what you're reading and your TBRs.
Don't forget to use #Classicsathon if you're sharing on Instagram or Twitter!
Hope you have an amazing #Classicsathon!
August sounds good to me - if I remember, that is! I’d been meaning to read it this year but never got around to it. I’d love to read it together!
I'd love to join in with The Portrait of a Lady in January! As it's quite long, shall we spend all month reading it?
As we look ahead to the beginning of the reading challenge, I'd love to know: what are your personal goals going to be? When I was designing the reading challenge, it was important to me to allow all of you to tailor your reading to your own interests, especially as there's such a wide variety of classics. So set yourself some personal goals you'd like to achieve related to classics throughout the year!
Before we begin the #ClassicsCommunity 2020 Reading Challenge in the new year, I'd love to know: what have been the best classics you've read in 2019?
You all asked and I think it's an amazing idea: here, you can organise your own readalongs and I'll then make a separate thread for all of you to join in with, once there are more than 3 of you who have agreed to join in.There unfortunately doesn't seem any better way to do this on Goodreads, but I'm hoping this will work!
Have a book you'd like to read with others? Leave the title here and when you'd like to begin, and then respond if you see someone else's that you'd also love to read!
Rachel wrote: "Does anyone know where to start with Elizabeth Glaskell or Antony Trollope?"I haven't read any Antony Trollope yet, but I love Elizabeth Gaskell and think the best place to start is by reading North and South. It's one of my favourite books, and the TV series is also one of my favourite book-to-screen adaptations. It's amazing!
