Hi everyone! We are officially transitioning our book club from Goodreads to our brand new Community page. We'll continue reading Dare to Lead and the rest of our 2020 book club list in the new community. To sign up for the community, click here: https://bit.ly/3fsuBCi
As you continue to read Dare to Lead, check out author Brené Brown's resources for daring leaders like the Daring Leadership Assessment which will help you gauge your strengths and your opportunities for growth as a daring leader.https://daretolead.brenebrown.com/
We are reading Dare to Lead as our next book! We will start next Friday, April 17th so make sure you grab your copy before then.
Leslie Taylor wrote: "I'm accepting that I'm in my career because I'm good at it, not because I love it."That's fair. Any thoughts on what you might do next? Will you stay in your career?
Laura wrote: "I really enjoyed the book and I didn’t realize how focused I was on doing things perfectly or not doing them at all until I read it!"Same here! This book showed me how important it is to just go for it. I do think there is room for more discussion on how speaking out at meetings like men do can actually cause more of a backlash for you, rather than seeming "brave."
We're almost done to "finishing" the book. Anyone have any thoughts so far? New things they learned? Things they didn't like?
We're going to share your questions with Reshma Saujani for her to personally answer. Comment below your thoughts or questions!
Tamara wrote: "Hi! My name is Tamara a Digital Learning Coach from New Mexico. I just received this book this week and began reading tonight! Reading the intro and first chapter I already feel it resonates with..."
Thank you for sharing, Tamara! I totally feel that. Being brave is a mentality in my opinion and it doesn't look the same for everyone. But I do think it means putting ourselves outside of our comfort zones and taking risks. I'm excited to see what you think as we keep reading!
It's time to start reading Brave, Not Perfect by author and Founder of Girls Who Code Reshma Saujani! We will be reading from today, March 4th, until April 1st. Any questions or thoughts you have, please share and post in the group. We want this to be a space where we can all come together and share our thoughts as we read. While you're here, check out our introduction of Brave, Not Perfect from Reshma herself!
Today is the last day for Represent: The Woman’s Guide to Running for Office and Changing the World! As you are nearing the end of the book, we would love to hear from you. How did you like the book? What are some of your key takeaways? Did it encourage you to considering running for office? What questions do you still have?
Comment below! And be sure to check out the special message from June and Kate as you finish the book.
There are so many wonderful stories of women running for office that Kate Black and June Diane Raphael included in Represent. A couple of my favorites are Susana Martinez, who served as the first female governor of New Mexico and first Latina female governor of any state, and Deb Haaland who is one of the first Native American women elected to Congress. What are some of y'alls favorites? Did any stories really resonate with you? Comment below!

Melissa wrote: "I don’t have much time to go to events and conferences so I feel like I’m missing out on ways to help me start a future run. What are some ways I can continue learning without sacrificing my person..."With everyone living busy schedules it can sometimes feel impossible to even consider throwing a run for office on the table. That’s why She Should Run created their Virtual Cohorts, so you don’t have to leave your house to start your journey. The Virtual Cohort is an online leadership program that provides an approachable starting place for women to envision themselves in political leadership and explore a future run for office. Check out www.sheshouldrun.org for more!
As you're halfway, or close to halfway, done with "Represent: The Woman’s Guide to Running for Office and Changing the World, " you might be thinking more about the logistics of a future run for office. We just shared a video from authors June Diane Raphael and Kate Black that discusses theses questions and shares some of their favorite stories from elected officials they interviewed from the book.As a reader, what questions do you have? What unique challenge do you face as you consider a run for office? What story has inspired you as you continue to read "Represent?"
