107353 Be persistent. You have a right to request books. Keep asking until someone tells you!

107353 OK, I requested this one today. I see that at my library they won't purchase things that are more than 2 years old, so as advice for anyone else, this is one to request quickly in case your library has a similar policy. :)

Sorry, I'm getting tired. It's late! Add the book to the group books on the group's main page. You'll see a couple of books there already. That way we can see at a glance what we're promoting. :)

the linen god (1 new)

107353 I'm posting a book my company just published to show the format we need right now to help people request books (and if you choose to request this book, that would be outstanding!)

Title: the linen god
Author: Jim O'Shea
Publisher: Written World Communications
ISBN: 978-1938679063
Genre: Thriller, Science Fiction, Religious Fiction

Description:

The Shroud of Turin is the most studied and controversial religious relic in human history. The ancient linen cloth bears the image of a man, alleged to be that of Jesus of Nazareth. What if it were real? What if it contained a secret powerful enough to alter the course of human history? And what if it fell into the wrong hands?

Manny Lusum is convinced the Shroud is the genuine article and obsessed with proving it scientifically. Grace Barden is not only Manny's best friend, but she's also secretly in love with the physics student and soon-to-be Catholic priest.

Across the globe, three grisly murders and the theft of a secret manuscript thrust Grace and Manny into a generations-old conspiracy of biblical proportions. From New York to Rome to the inner sanctum of the Vatican, they struggle to untangle a bizarre mystery surrounding the controversial artifact. In a dramatic confrontation between faith and the ultimate evil on the world stage, Grace and Manny are pushed to the edge of an abyss, balanced between heaven and hell.

107353 I just wanted to say, if your library already has a book listed here, it also helps the author if you go check out that books. Books need to be checked out often or they will be eventually removed from the library. It's important to KEEP a book on the shelves once it's there.

Why?

1. Books checked out often build a readership / audience for the author. If the library sees that audience then they will be more likely to purchase other books by that author in the future.

2. Books checked out often stay in the library until they wear out. Sad but true fact, books in very good condition are removed from the library on a regular basis - if no one checks them out their time is up. This is a book that can't be discovered by future readers. And this author might have a harder time getting into that library again.

3. Checking out books by our authors here might just turn into your favorite new book. By actually reading the books that are requested here you never know what you will find. How exciting is that?

So yes! You can still make an impact if the book you're looking for is already there!

Sounds like you're doing great so far. Start a new topic with all of that information. Libraries can be difficult, but as one library buyer told me, if someone ASKS for the book, that means that they have customers that already want it. Hence the priority put on buying it. The important thing is for someone other than the author to request it - the more 'real' readers want a book, the more likely it will be purchased.

107353 If you are looking for someone to request your book at their library please do a few things that will help out.

Post a new topic in this folder with your book title as the name.

Put COMPLETE information about your book in the note. This would include:

1. Name of Book
2. Name of Author
3. Publisher (or self if it's self-published)
4. The ISBN (you MUST have an ISBN number)
5. Genre
6. Short description
7. Publication Date
8. Distributor (if you know it)

Please be aware that what goes around, comes around...so if you're looking for someone to request your book, then the kind thing to do would be to find a book that interests you to request it from your own library.

And if you find out that your book was requested and put in a library successfully, let us know! We love hearing about victories!

107353 1. Be a card-carrying member of your local library.

2. Research how to request books from your branch (usually it's right on their website)

3. Connect with authors on Goodreads that write the kinds of books you love.

4. Check at your library to see if that author's books are there or not.

5. If the book is not in the library, then request it!

6. If the book IS in the library, then check it out! Books checked out often means that library will be more likely to buy books by that author again.

Since there's usually a limit on how many books you can request in a year, please only request books you personally would like to read or are in genres that interest you (because you can then continue your support of authors by perhaps reviewing the book later if you're so moved).

Can you imagine the impact we, as readers, could have on the library system? Can you imagine as an author what it would be like to have a copy of your book in every library?
